OOTD: Casual Weekend

Essex, UK.

This Weekend was very chilled, I had so much on at University, that I really needed to stay in and focus. But I had to run out on Sunday to pick up a few things and I thought I would share my outfit.

Scroll for outfit details and links.

Latest addition to my wardrobe was this pastel pink jumper from Topshop. I can't find the exact product link, but here are some similar. I thought this would be a great piece to transition between seasons, as it is too cold still to start wearing spring tops, but at the same time, I am so impatient for spring and summer. Therefore I thought this colour was a good choice, and it also looks great with the clashing red bag (Vintage Louis Vuitton, exact model here), which looks like it may be trending during the upcoming season.

I also picked up some classic Topshop jeans, and paired them with these Miu Miu inspired ballet pumps from Zara. I can't find the exact link to the shoes, as I think they were last season, but here are some similar styles (here and here). I have linked the original Miu Miu ones below.

London Fashion Week Festival Signage on the Strand

London, UK.

Read on for a summary of my time at London Fashion Week Festival last Sunday. Formally London Fashion Weekend, the London Fashion Week Festival follows London Fashion Week and provides public access to various catwalk shows, exclusive shopping and very expensive prosecco. I attended on the Sunday with the clear goal of seeing the Teatum Jones SS17 show, which is one of LFWF's featured designers this season. There is various other designers featured on different days, as well as their curated 'trend' shows.

The festival has a huge array of shopping available, with big name sample sales as well as some more unique, and independent brands from UK based designers. It's a great place to go to find some bargains, for example, I found the Chloe bag I have been lusting after for months as well as the super cute Balenciaga bags, with an amazing discount applied. I also had to stop and have a look at the Burberry Trench coats that they had as part of one of the sample sales, but I can't justify buying another one. But like I said, it's a great place to find some discounts on a couple of things, but it is a bit of a luck game, especially going on a Sunday. I would suggest getting into the festival on one of the earlier days if you really wanted to go hunting.

There were many photo set ups to have a cheeky pose in front of (if you got the chance) as well as branded photo-booths to  capture a little keepsake from the event. The festival's sponsors, Maybelline New York, and Toni and guy also offered some walk in treatments, such as make-up touch ups and express blow drys for anyone who wanted some star treatment between the shows and shopping.

As for the Teatum Jones show, I think I have definitely found a designer I will look out for next Fashion Week. The SS17 collection featured some stunning silk printed dresses as well as some lace pencil skirts and peplum shirt dresses that I have my eye on right now. As I attended on behalf of Pynck, I have included the footage from the show over on their page here (coming soon, check back). For Teatum Jones stockist list, see here.

For more information on London Fashion Week Festival, see here. I would highly recommend signing up to their news letter as on occasion they send you ticket reminders and if you're lucky some discounts on tickets. Also it will enable you to plan your time at the event. On this occasion, I mostly went to see the show and not for the shopping, but previously I have gone and had a naughty shop, but this time I just could not deal with the crowds! Maybe I should go on an earlier day and time!

For what I wore see below. (Sweatshirt from Zara, similar below)

Who doesn't like a crisp white shirt? Effortless, elegant, a classic wardrobe staple everyone should have! However, over the decades the classic white shirt has evolved into various different species with ruffles, oversized silhouettes and pussy-bows.

Karen Millen are launching a new capsule collection of white shirts as part of their white shirt project, with a total of 8 shirts designed by their London atelier. The collection will be available late February on-line and in store.

I have recently been on a mad choker spending spree, and found some lovely pieces at NA-KD.com. Their selection is brilliant, not too pricey either.

I have provided a banner with a welcome 10% off your first purchase too, so definitely go and check out the site. I'm in LOVE with it.

I think this is a trend we have been seeing for quite a few years, but I feel that recently it has been stepped up a little bit. I remember the first time round when I must have been about 7 years old, wearing one of the plastic, wire, loopy styles (no idea what you actually call them) to a school disco. But a few years ago these started to hit our radars again with the rebirth of 90s grunge. Since then, we have seen lace chokers, velvet chokers, delicate chokers, just about anything that you can wear around your neck. But recently, I have been seeing a few pieces that are really statement and out there. And I wasn't entirely sure I would be digging that whole look, but I guess I am now!

I saw a few inspirational images earlier this year, with big leather bands with buckles and rings worn over the top of polo neck jumpers or tops, and thought, that looks interesting. I can do that when the season changes. But to keep it in keeping with the current season I found this choker from NA-KD which I think looks great with the huge off the shoulder thing we have going on. I had to pick it up in both metal finishes! (Gold here, silver here).

I also picked up this leather band (here), which I thought looked interesting and edgy. I'm not entirely sure it would work casually but would be a good 'going out' piece and a great way to wear something other than the plain black choker that everyone seems to be wearing.

Lastly, there is a huge amount of those suede or leather stings being worn as a necklace/ choker. NA-KD do this one (here), which I also added to my collection.

Online boutique, NA-KD, have quite a few interesting pieces, including some that may look good over polo necks as it comes to winter. The selection is a good one.

I hope you enjoyed this post and make sure to use the discount code if you shop on NA-KD.com

Trend: Track tops, top picks

Bergen, Norway.

So, track tops are a trend? I'd seen them back on the Chloe runway for this spring summer (watch here), but never really thought I'd be one for that. I was wrong (Thanks ZARA).

Read on for some of my favourite track style tops.

Sport inspired track top

I was browsing the ZARA sale the other day and came across this top (here). And I saw the price (£4) and was all like "get in my basket". However, I will not say that this was a complete impulse buy, I have seen sweaters like this pop up on a number of e-stores. I think that I was lucky to find one that was a bit different, with the huge back cut out, got to flaunt the scoliosis! With that being said, I have been through and found a few of my favourite track style tops from the 'high street', and of course I will link the Chloe one. But for those of us who aren't prepared to sell a kidney for a glorified tracksuit, here are my cheaper favourites. Enjoy.

Rainy walks: Bergen in Burberry

Bergen, Norway.

Second fashion related post, and if I am honest, this is literally what I live in. Black jeans, black roll neck and my trench. Whatever time of year, if I'm stuck, I always throw this on.

Today we were taking a walk in Nordnes, Bergen, and it rained so hard. I was thankful that I'd worn my favourite Burberry trench coat. For anyone wishing to pick up a Burberry trench coat, because lets face it, the trench has to be Burberry, I will share some of my favourite things about them as well as some tips when looking for one.

With the Burberry Trench coats, apart from being incredibly well made and crafted, Thomas Burberry was the creator of the original trench coat. Therefore, purchasing from Burberry allows you to get the 'real thing'. I suppose that Chanel has it's Tweed suit, and Burberry has it's trench coat. It is a classic design that will withstand the test of time and still be wearable in future seasons.

What I love about my trench coat is that it is very versatile in that I can wear it in the summer and the winter. The gabardine that it is made of is waterproof and doesn't leave any signs that the coat has been rained on. It really bugs me when fabric retains the drop marks that rain leaves on it. The style is also easy to pair up with things and can be taken from a very casual look to something more dressy. In terms of cost per wear, I know that the piece is pricey, but I wear it all the time, and I don't plan on stopping. So I guess I have got very good use out of my money. I would say that the coat is an investment, and 100% worth having.

A tip, if you are looking to purchase your very own Burberry Trench Coat, is to visit a Burberry outlet. You may be able to pick up a heavily discounted trench coat and save yourself quite a bit of money. I would not suggest going to an outlet to just have a look and pick up anything cheap, because many items in the Burberry store are £100+ so don't expect to walk away with anything cheap. But if you are looking for something specific, and have saved for it, you might be able to save by visiting the outlets. Anyway, back to the trench. I think that because the design is so classic, if you can find one in your size and a style you like, it won't look like you have bought something 'last season' (if you're really bothered about that).

OOTD: High Street, High end mix and match. And Pokemon Hunting

High Street and High end.

I thought I would do a bit of an outfity post, as I think I would really like my blog to go that way. I love fashion and when you find the magic store, Mango in this case, I literally just want to buy all of it and tell everyone else to buy all of it. I find that Mango, and also Zara, offer some amazing pieces that look like they cost a bit, but actually don't. To me that is the magic formula, as I love finding things that look high end but are actually very reasonably priced. I'm also on a bit of a student budget so high end is pretty much out of the question at the moment. But I can dream!

As I am in Norway, I was almost embarrassingly excited to find a Mango store in one of the shopping malls outside of Bergen. And they had a sale on, so I looked like a kid catching rare Pokemon these days! I wondered (sprinted) in, and I will show you a couple of the pieces I purchased. I also mixed in some already owned pieces that are high end, to show how you can mix and match to create a more versatile wardrobe.

As with these outfit orientated posts, the whole point is to get some good modely shots right? And I see so many other bloggers post amazing pictures that give me blogger envy! But I warn you I'm starting out, and when we shot these I was running to hide from passers by. Until I figured out I could become a master of disguise and pretend to play Pokemon! It was like pose, Pokemon, pose, Pokemon.

Moving on, I will show you how I styled my purchases and share some tips that I have picked up when I go for more high end purchases. Although most of them might seem common sense, I'm sharing anyway, so read on!

So first up, I found this camel blazer. I'm having a bit of a blazer craze at the moment. I'm sure this stems from my jacket/ coat obsession, but I'm pretty sure the Balmain blazers have sparked this. I already have a black Reiss double breasted blazer, but obviously I needed a camel one too! So I saw this one in the Mango sale, and I was completely sold on it. The fabric is of good quality and doesn't look as cheap as it was at all! The fit is also perfect, and I feel it is a really good length for me as I am short, but I think it would also be a good length even if you were taller. I think I would also style this with perhaps some camel trousers, a laced camisole and some black stilettos for a more evening look. But you can throw this on over jeans and a shirt to smarten up a casual outfit.

After the blazer, I saw this pink shirt. I have loads of white satin button down shirts, but I'd never thought of adding anything in this colour to my wardrobe. I'm one of those safe neutral girls! But I've recently seen that this sort of pink crops up a lot in the Gucci collections, so I guess that's what drew me to it. Shirts are also very versatile. You can wear them casually or smart, so I feel this was a good addition to my wardrobe. And as I said, I'm a naturals fan, so I already own a lot that this colour will go with.

As for the style, it is pretty basic, the colour is the real feature here, but the sleeves have buttoned tabs so you can either wear them down or roll them up. The fabric is also nice, with a slight metallic finish to it.

I paired these pieces with some basic white jeans, that I already owned, as it was summer. I'm sure many people have white jeans in their wardrobe, and if you don't, you need some. Go check out Mango, now!

So as for the other pieces I wore, I added my black Prada slipper pumps, my Mulberry Lily bag and a simple necklace from a local (Norwegian) designer that was gifted to me for my birthday. I will not be able to find links to the specific products, excluding the lily bag, as they are either from past seasons or a unique piece. I will however include some similar pieces and I will feature them over on my shop page.

When I take a plunge and decide it's time for a designer purchase, I always make sure I go for something I am confident I can get the wear out of. Cost per wear being low makes me feel better about blowing a small fortune. So therefore it is wise to choose something that 1. you are 100% sure you like, 2. you know it will go with most of your wardrobe, and 3. it is wearable. By wearable I mean comfortable. There is no point in spending lots on something you don't wear because it is either difficult to match up or too uncomfortable.

Another really important thing is that it is of good quality and you are not just paying for some crappy made bag just for the label. I find Mulberry are really good for making sure that their products will not wear out quickly. My lily bag is also grainy leather. I have other bags that aren't and I find that no matter how careful I am, smooth leather always gets scuffed or scratched. By opting for something with a texture to it, scratches don't show up as easily which keeps you product looking in good condition for longer.
